BIBLEREADER // STEVEN MITCHELL

This list gives you Bible verses about praise, arranged by the kinds of moments when praising God feels easy and the moments when it feels like work. It is written for Christians who want Scripture to guide their worship, their prayers and their everyday thankfulness. Each group below gathers verses that call God’s people to sing, bless, thank and honor the Lord, along with a short note on how to carry that praise into a regular day.

What these passages share is a simple conviction: praise is a response to who God is and what He has done, and it is meant to be offered in every season, not only when the mood is right.

Verses for Mornings When Gratitude Is Hard to Find

Some days you wake up already tired, and praise feels like one more task. The verses in this group speak to the start of the day, when you can choose to turn your attention toward God before the noise begins.

Psalm 92:1-2

1 It is a good thing to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to your name, Most High; 2 to proclaim your loving kindness in the morning, and your faithfulness every night…

(WEB)

The psalmist suggests a rhythm: give thanks in the morning and proclaim God’s faithfulness at night. Try saying one sentence of thanks before you check your phone, and let that be the first thing your day is built on.

Psalm 5:3

The LORD, in the morning you shall hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my requests before you, and will watch expectantly.

(WEB)

David speaks of bringing his requests and then watching for God in the morning. Write a single line of praise on a sticky note and place it where you will see it while getting ready for work.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

This passage was written in grief, yet it turns to God’s faithfulness being new each morning. When the day starts heavy, name one specific mercy you have seen in the past week and thank God for it by name.

Verses for Times of Thanksgiving and Blessing

Thanksgiving is one of the most natural forms of praise, and the Bible returns to it again and again. These verses help you turn ordinary blessings, such as a shared meal, a kind word or a working car, into occasions for worship.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.

(WEB)

Paul links thanksgiving to God’s will for believers in Christ Jesus, not to perfect circumstances. Before your next meal, pause for a moment and thank God for the food and the people sitting with you.

Psalm 107:1

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.

(WEB)

This verse gives a simple reason for thanks: God is good and His love endures. Think of one way you have seen His goodness this week and tell someone about it.

Colossians 3:17

Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father, through him.

(WEB)

Paul asks that everything you do, in word or deed, be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, with thanks to God the Father. Try giving thanks as you finish an ordinary task, such as washing dishes or answering email.

Psalm 100:4

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, and bless his name.

(WEB)

The psalm invites worshipers to enter God’s gates with thanksgiving. Consider beginning your prayer time with a short list of things you are grateful for before bringing any requests.

Verses for Singing, Shouting and Joyful Worship

Praise in Scripture is often loud, physical and joyful. These passages encourage you to sing, clap and rejoice before the Lord, whether you are in a church gathering or alone in your kitchen.

Psalm 150:6

Let everything that has breath praise Yah! Praise Yah!

(WEB)

The psalm closes the book with a call for everything that has breath to praise the Lord. Put on a song of worship during a commute and sing along, even if your voice is not perfect.

Psalm 98:4

Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! Burst out and sing for joy, yes, sing praises!

(WEB)

The psalmist invites the whole earth to shout and sing to the Lord. Choose one hymn you know well and sing it aloud this week, letting the words become your own prayer.

Ephesians 5:19

Speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; singing, and making melody in your heart to the Lord…

(WEB)

Paul urges believers to speak to one another in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, making melody in their hearts to the Lord. Share a song of worship with a friend who is going through a hard week.

Psalm 33:1

Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous! Praise is fitting for the upright.

(WEB)

The righteous are called to rejoice in the Lord, and praise is described as fitting for the upright. Begin one day by playing a worship song and speaking its lyrics back to God as a prayer.

Verses for Praising God in Hard Seasons

Praise does not depend on how you feel. Several passages show people praising God in suffering, uncertainty and waiting, which can be a comfort when your own worship feels thin.

Habakkuk 3:17-18

17 For though the fig tree doesn’t flourish, nor fruit be in the vines; the labor of the olive fails, the fields yield no food; the flocks are cut off from the fold, and there is no herd in the stalls: 18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD. I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!

(WEB)

The prophet describes a season of loss and still chooses to rejoice in God as his salvation. When money or health feels uncertain, name one thing about God’s character that stays true and rejoice in that.

Acts 16:25

But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.

(WEB)

Paul and Silas sang hymns to God while imprisoned, and the others listening heard them. If you are in a difficult place, consider speaking a few lines of praise aloud, even quietly, as an act of trust.

Psalm 34:1

I will bless the LORD at all times. His praise will always be in my mouth.

(WEB)

David says he will bless the Lord at all times, and that His praise will be continually on his lips. Pick a short phrase of praise and repeat it through the hardest part of your day.

Hebrews 13:15

Through him, then, let us offer up a sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of lips which proclaim allegiance to his name.

(WEB)

The writer calls praise a sacrifice offered continually to God, the fruit of lips that confess His name. Offer one spoken word of praise during a moment that costs you something, such as after a difficult phone call.

How to Use These Verses

Choose two or three verses that match your current season and write them somewhere you will see them daily, such as a notebook, a phone lock screen or a bathroom mirror. Reading them slowly once in the morning often does more than reading many passages quickly.

When you pray, try turning a verse into a sentence of praise in your own words. Speaking the verse back to God, then naming one specific reason you praise Him that day, turns Scripture into a conversation rather than a checklist.

A Short Prayer for Praise

Lord, you are worthy of praise in every season, and I want my worship to rise to you whether I feel strong or weak. Teach me to thank you when the day goes well and when it does not. Put a new song in my mouth and help me see your faithfulness in the small things I usually overlook. Let my words, my work and my quiet moments all point back to your goodness. Thank you for hearing me. Amen.
