This simple prayer is for the end of a hard week, when you are tired, worried or simply worn thin and do not know what to say to God. Pray it at the close of the day, in the car, or the moment you sit down after everyone has gone quiet. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in its place.

Simple Prayer After a Difficult Week

Lord, I come to you tired. This week asked more of me than I had to give. Some of it was in my work, where the deadlines piled up and the people around me were not easy to please. Some of it was at home, where the worry sat in my chest and followed me to bed. I am not asking you to explain every hard thing. I am only telling you the truth about how heavy it has been.

Please meet me in the parts of the week I could not fix. Steady my thoughts when they run ahead to next Monday. Ease the ache in my body and the fog in my head. Where I have been short with people I love, forgive me, and give me the grace to make it right. Where I have been hurt by someone else, help me set that down rather than carry it another night.

Be near to the people I am praying for, and near to me. Give me enough rest tonight to face tomorrow, and enough faith to trust that you have not lost track of any of it. Thank you that I do not have to hold everything together on my own. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, this week has worn me down. I do not have the words for all of it, but you know exactly where I am. Carry what I cannot carry tonight. Give me rest, a clear mind for tomorrow, and a little peace where there has been noise. I trust you with what is left unfinished. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

Read this slowly when the week feels like it is pressing in from every side. Pray it as a statement of who God is, then ask him to be the refuge you need right now, not the one you imagine you should be finding.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Jesus speaks to people who are worn out. Let his invitation be addressed to you by name, and tell him specifically which burdens you are setting down at the end of this week.

Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

(WEB)

Use this verse to name the particular weights you are carrying, whether they are money, a relationship or a decision. Ask God to take them, and notice how the prayer itself loosens your grip.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

When the week has been hard, it helps to remember that God’s mercies have not run out. Pray these words over the coming morning, asking for fresh compassion for the day ahead.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

This verse speaks directly to the weary and the powerless. Ask God to give you the strength you lack today, and thank him that his strength does not depend on how much you have left.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet time at the end of the day, after the last task is done and before you reach for your phone. Sit somewhere comfortable, and if your hands feel restless, rest them open in your lap or hold a warm cup. Read the prayer slowly, pausing after each sentence to let the words land before moving on.

If someone in your home or your circle is also struggling, you can pray this together, taking turns reading the lines. You might also keep a short notebook beside your bed and write down one thing from the week you are handing to God, so the prayer has a place to return to on the next hard day.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who sees every hard hour of this week give you rest that goes deeper than sleep. May he steady your heart for what comes next, and remind you that you are known, kept and not forgotten. Go into the coming days lighter than you came into this one.
