BIBLEREADER // ISABELLA WALKER

This page offers a written prayer of blessing for Easter, the day Christians set aside to celebrate Jesus rising from the dead. You can pray it on Easter morning, at the start of a holiday gathering, or in the quiet hours when the day’s noise has settled. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where your heart leads.

Blessings for Easter

Lord, on this morning we remember that the tomb was empty. The women who came early with spices found the stone rolled away, and the story that began in sorrow turned into the good news of your victory over death. Thank you that Easter is not only a memory but a living truth. Let that truth reach into the ordinary parts of our lives, into the families who will gather around a table today, the friends who are carrying grief they have not spoken aloud, and the people who wonder whether anything can really change.

Bless the ones who are far from home and the ones who are sitting alone. Bless the parents tired from getting children dressed, the grandparents hoping to see everyone together, and the believers who feel their faith is thin this year. Where there is fear, give courage. Where there is sickness, give strength and comfort, and where there is loss, let your nearness be the first thing they feel. Fill this day with gratitude that does not depend on how perfect the morning turns out. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Risen Lord, you are alive and you are with us. Bless this Easter day with the joy of your resurrection. Meet the people I love with peace and hope, and meet me where I am, whether I feel celebratory or weary. Let the empty tomb remind me that nothing is beyond your power to make new. Help me carry that hope into the next hour, and into every person I will see today. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Matthew 28:6

He is not here, for he has risen, just like he said. Come, see the place where the Lord was lying.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by naming the place where you feel the most doubt about God’s power. Ask him to let the announcement of the empty tomb speak to that exact place, so that the old fear loosens its grip on your heart today.

1 Corinthians 15:57

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

(WEB)

Read this verse slowly and thank God for the victory that Christ won over sin and death. Then pray for the people in your life who are still living under the weight of defeat, asking that they would receive the same victory as a gift.

Psalm 118:24

This is the day that the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!

(WEB)

Let this verse become your opening prayer for the day. Ask God to help you receive this Easter morning as one he has made, and to shape your joy around his goodness rather than around how the day unfolds.

Romans 6:4

We were buried therefore with him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.

(WEB)

Pray this verse for anyone who is longing for a new start, whether after a hard season, a broken relationship, or a habit they want to leave behind. Ask that the life of the risen Christ would become visible in their everyday choices.

John 20:16

Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him, “Rabboni!” which is to say, “Teacher!”

(WEB)

Imagine Mary Magdalene hearing her name spoken by Jesus, and pray that you too would recognize his voice calling you personally. Ask him to speak your name into whatever loneliness or confusion you are carrying.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray this prayer early in the morning, before the phone and the schedule take over. Sit somewhere quiet, perhaps near a window where you can see the light coming in. You might hold a cup of coffee or simply rest your hands open on your lap, a small way of receiving what God is giving.

If you are gathering with family or friends, consider reading the prayer aloud before the meal and inviting someone else to pray the closing lines. Children can take turns naming a person they want God to bless. Whether you pray alone or with others, let the prayer be a starting point, and feel free to add names and details that only you would know.

A Blessing to Close

May the God who raised Jesus from the grave fill your home with light and your heart with steady hope. May his peace guard the people you love, and may his joy meet you in every ordinary moment of this day. Go forward knowing that the resurrection is true, and that you are held by the One who holds the morning.
