This prayer is for the discouraged: the person who is tired of trying, who feels worn thin by disappointment, or who cannot see how things will get better. Pray it when the weight is heavy in the morning, after a hard conversation, or late at night when sleep will not come. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the spaces it opens.
Prayer for the Discouraged
Lord, you see me when I feel invisible. You know the hours I have spent trying to do what is right, and you know the times it has seemed to change nothing. I am tired, and some days I wonder whether my effort matters at all. Please meet me in that tiredness. Lift the heaviness I carry, and remind me that you are near even when I cannot feel you.
I bring you the things that weigh on me most: the unanswered questions, the relationships that feel strained, the work that goes unnoticed, and the fear that things will not turn out the way I hoped. Quiet the voice that tells me I have failed or that I am alone. Replace my hopelessness with a steady trust in your faithfulness, one step at a time. Give me enough rest tonight to face tomorrow, and enough courage to take the next small step.
Thank you that my discouragement does not surprise you, and that you are not put off by my honest sadness. Hold me together where I feel like falling apart. I am asking you to carry what I cannot carry right now. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am discouraged, and I do not have the words for all of it. You know what is weighing on me. Please lift this heaviness, quiet my fear, and give me enough strength for the next hour. Remind me that you have not left me, and help me keep going, one faithful step at a time. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Try praying it in the early morning, before the day’s demands crowd in, or in the evening when you can sit down without interruption. Choose a quiet chair or a corner of a room where you can be still. If your hands feel restless, hold a cup of tea, rest a hand over your heart, or write down the names of people and situations as you pray for them.
You do not have to pray it alone. Ask a trusted friend, a pastor, or a small group to pray it with you or over you, and let them know specifically what you are facing. Sometimes hearing another voice speak these words gives you the strength to believe them again.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who sees you in your weariness lift your head and steady your steps. May he give you rest that restores your spirit and hope that outlasts the hard season. May you feel his nearness today, and may you know that you are held.
