BIBLEREADER // STEVEN MITCHELL

These prayers are for entrepreneurs, the people who carry a business idea, payroll, customers and risk on their own shoulders. You can pray them in the morning before the first call, during a slow week, or late at night when the numbers keep you awake. Read them aloud exactly as written, or use them as a starting point and put your own words to the things on your heart.

Prayers for Entrepreneurs

Father, you know the business I am building better than I do. You know the late invoices, the bank balance I check too often, the employees who depend on steady work, and the customers who trust what we make. Give me clear wisdom when I have to decide quickly, and help me tell the difference between a risk worth taking and a fear dressed up as caution. Keep my character honest when no one is watching and when the deal would be easier to bend.

Lord, I bring you my worry about making payroll and keeping the doors open. Teach me to work with diligence and to rest without guilt, because I know that the business does not depend on my strength alone. Bless the people who share this work with me, and bless the ones I serve. Where I have failed, forgive me, and where I am weary, renew me. Let my work be a place where people are treated fairly and where your goodness shows. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am carrying this business and this week feels heavy. Give me wisdom for the next decision, patience with the person across the table, and integrity in every promise I make. Steady my hands and quiet my fear. Help me trust you with what I cannot control, and let my work serve the people around me. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

(WEB)

Pray this when a decision feels too large for your experience. Ask God plainly for wisdom about the next step, and expect him to give it generously without scolding you for needing it.

Proverbs 16:3

Commit your deeds to the LORD, and your plans shall succeed.

(WEB)

Use this as you plan the coming months. Commit your projects and budgets to the Lord, and ask him to shape the plans so they serve good ends rather than only your own anxious goals.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

Pray this on the days when your work feels small or unseen. Ask God to help you do each task as something offered to him, which can bring dignity to ordinary labor.

Psalm 127:1

Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.

(WEB)

Turn to this when the pressure to succeed becomes crushing. Acknowledge that the building is ultimately the Lord’s work, and ask him to labor with you so you are not carrying every outcome alone.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Pray this when money, deadlines and uncertainty pile up. Bring each specific worry to God in prayer with thanksgiving, and ask for the peace that guards the heart when circumstances stay unsettled.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many entrepreneurs find the early morning useful, before email and phone calls begin to fill the day. Sit at your desk or at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee, and pray the main prayer slowly, pausing after each concern to name it specifically, such as the supplier who is late or the hire you are unsure about. Keeping a notebook nearby lets you write down what you hear and return to it later.

This prayer also works well shared with a spouse, a business partner, or a small group of other business owners who meet regularly. Ask one person to read it aloud while the others listen, then let each person add a single request for the business. Praying together in this way reminds you that the work does not rest on you alone.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord give wisdom to every decision and steadiness to every hard day. May the people who depend on this work be treated with fairness and care, and may your effort be honored in ways you did not expect. May God’s peace guard your heart and mind as you go back to the work he has given you.
