This page offers prayers for finding peace when worry, pressure or restlessness has crowded out your calm. You can pray it in the early morning before the day gets loud, late at night when your mind will not settle, or in the middle of a hard hour when you need to turn toward God. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Prayers for Finding Peace

Lord, my mind keeps running ahead of me. I lie awake replaying conversations, rehearsing things that have not happened, and making lists of what could go wrong. Some of this weight is from work that will not let up, some from money that stretches thin, and some from people I love who are struggling and whom I cannot fix. I am tired of carrying all of it at once. I bring every one of these worries to you now, and I ask you to take what I cannot hold.

Quiet my heart the way a parent settles a child who has cried too long. Let me breathe slowly and notice that you are already here, already steady, already in charge of things I am not. Help me set down what is not mine to carry today and trust you with tomorrow as well. Give me enough peace for the next step, and then the step after that. Teach me to rest in you instead of waiting for circumstances to change before I allow myself to be still. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am anxious right now and I do not want to pretend otherwise. Slow my breathing and steady my thoughts. I give you the next hour and the problem I cannot solve on my own. Remind me that you see this, you hear me, and you are not surprised by anything in my day. Let your calm settle over me like a blanket, and help me take the next small faithful step. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Use this passage when worry has become a constant hum. Pray each concern by name, then thank God for the things you have already seen him provide. Ask him to guard your heart and mind while you wait for the answer.

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.

(WEB)

When you feel unsettled, read this slowly and notice that Jesus speaks of peace as something he gives, not something you must manufacture. Pray that you would receive that peace and not the fear the world offers in its place.

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”

(WEB)

This verse invites you to stop striving. Pray it slowly, leaving space between phrases, and let the call to be still become a literal pause in your busy hour. Ask God to help you know him more fully in that quiet.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

Here peace is linked to trust. As you pray this, name the thing you keep returning to in your mind, and ask God to help you fix your thoughts on his faithfulness instead of the worst possible outcome.

Psalm 23:1-3

1 The LORD is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

(WEB)

The image of green pastures and still waters speaks to a restless soul. Pray that the Lord who leads you would lead you now into rest, and that he would restore what has been drained by the long days behind you.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time when you can be alone for five minutes, such as before the household wakes, on your lunch break in the car, or in bed before sleep. Sit with your feet on the floor or hold a warm mug with both hands, since a physical anchor can help the mind follow the body into stillness. Read the prayer once through quietly, then again aloud if you are able.

If you are praying for someone else who is troubled, read the prayer with their name in place of “my” and “I” where it fits. A friend, spouse or small group can also pray it together, taking turns with the paragraphs. Keep a note of the concerns you named so you can return to them later and see how God has been faithful in the waiting.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who calms the storm be near to you in this season. May his peace guard your heart when the thoughts grow loud, and may you find rest in the simple certainty that you are known and held. Go forward today with a steady spirit, trusting that the God who began your story is faithful to finish it well.
