This page offers prayers for love and unity, written for the moments when relationships feel strained, when a family, church or friendship has grown distant, or when you simply want your heart to be more patient and kind toward others. You can pray it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words. It works well in the morning before a difficult conversation, in the evening after an argument, or whenever you sense that division is taking hold.
Prayers for Love and Unity
Father, you are the God who makes peace and who draws people together around your Son. We come to you today aware of the distance that has crept into our relationships. Some of us are carrying hurt from words that were said and not taken back. Others are tired of trying to be understood and quietly wondering whether it is worth the effort. Give us eyes to see the people in our lives the way you see them, as loved and as needing grace.
Soften the places in us that have grown hard. Where we have been quick to judge, slow us down. Where we have kept score, help us to let it go. Teach us to listen before we answer and to speak in a way that builds up rather than tears down. Remind us that the bond you have made between people is stronger than our disagreements, and that love is something you pour into us rather than something we must manufacture on our own.
Make us people who work for unity without giving up the truth you have entrusted to us. Let our love be patient and kind, not envious or proud. Hold the people we are praying for in your hands tonight, and do in them what only you can do. Bind our hearts together in peace, and let others see something of your love in the way we treat one another. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I need your love in this moment. I am frustrated with someone I care about, and I do not want my words to add to the hurt. Fill me with your patience and your kindness. Help me to hear them fully before I respond, and give me the grace to choose gentleness. Bring us back together in your peace. Amen.

1 John 4:11
Beloved, if God loved us in this way, we also ought to love one another.

Romans 12:18
If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.
(WEB)
Paul recognizes that peace is not always fully in our control. Pray this verse by committing your part to God and asking him to make it possible, where it depends on you.
How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a quiet time of day, such as early in the morning or just before bed, when you are not rushed. If you are praying for a specific person or relationship, keep a photograph or a note with their name nearby. Some people find it helpful to pray with their hands open on their lap, a small reminder that they are releasing the situation to God rather than gripping it.
This prayer can also be shared. A spouse, a close friend or a small group can take turns reading one paragraph each, or pray it together over a meal. Praying with someone else often softens the heart toward a person you have been struggling to forgive, and it reminds you that unity is something you build together, not alone.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who knit your heart together with others fill you with love that does not run out. May he grant patience where there has been frustration, and peace where there has been distance. May the people you hold dear feel the warmth of his kindness through you. Go in that peace.
