This page gives you prayers for those in need, the people around you who are sick, grieving, anxious, unemployed, far from home, or simply worn down and unable to carry their burden alone. You can pray these words in the morning before the day gets loud, in the evening when a name keeps coming back to mind, or whenever you hear that someone is struggling. Read them aloud exactly as written, or use them as a starting point and speak the names and details that are on your heart.

Prayers for Those in Need

Father, you see the people I am thinking of right now, and you know the things they cannot say out loud. You know the late-night worry that keeps them staring at the ceiling, the bills stacked on the kitchen counter, the test results they are afraid to open, and the loneliness that fills a house even when it is full of people. I bring them to you. Be near to them in the hard hours. Give them enough strength for today and enough rest to face tomorrow.

Lord, meet each need with your provision. Where there is sickness, bring healing and steady hands among the doctors and nurses. Where there is grief, comfort the heart that feels broken and remind it that it is not forgotten. Where there is fear, quiet the mind and give it something solid to hold. Open a door where there seems to be no way forward, and send help through the people you have already placed in their lives.

Shepherd them, Father, as only you can. Let them feel your presence even when they cannot explain it, and let them know they are loved by you and by those who pray for them. Hear this prayer for those in need and answer in the way that is best for them. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, someone I love is struggling right now, and I cannot fix it on my own. Be close to them in this moment. Give them the calm they need, the help they are waiting for, and the sense that they are not alone. Meet them where they are, and let your peace reach them today. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when someone feels crushed or broken in spirit. Ask God to draw near to them specifically, naming their pain, and trust that he is not distant from the hurting.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Use this verse for the person who is exhausted and carrying too much. Pray that they would hear Jesus’ invitation and bring their weariness to him rather than hiding it.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Pray this passage for those gripped by anxiety. Ask that they would bring their requests to God in prayer and experience a peace that steadies the heart and the mind.

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when the need feels overwhelming. Ask God to be the refuge and strength the person can run to, not only in theory but in the real storms they face today.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Use this verse for someone who feels afraid or alone. Pray that they would sense God’s presence beside them and his strength holding them up when their own strength runs out.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a regular time to pray for the people on your list, such as while the coffee brews in the morning or during the drive to work. Keep a small notebook or the notes app on your phone open, and write down names and specific needs so you can return to them day after day. When you pray, speak the person’s name aloud, and if you know the details of their situation, name those too. Specific prayer tends to stay with us longer than general requests.

Consider inviting someone else to pray with you, a spouse, a friend from church, or a small group. Share the request with them and agree to pray over it together, even by text or phone if you are not in the same room. Many people in need say the hardest part is feeling forgotten, so let them know you are praying and check in with them when you can. Your steady care may be one of the ways God answers the prayer.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless the one who is struggling and keep them in his care. May he lift the weight they carry, bring them rest for their souls, and remind them that they are seen and loved. May his peace guard their heart and his strength steady their steps. Go forward knowing that your prayers are heard.
