BIBLEREADER // ISABELLA WALKER

These prayers are written for a husband, or anyone who loves a wife, to lift her up before God. They are meant to be prayed in the morning before the day begins, during a hard season, or in a quiet moment when you simply want to hold her before the Lord. You can read them aloud exactly as written, or use them as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Prayers for Wives

Father, I bring my wife to you today. You know her better than I ever will. You know the thoughts she carries that she has not spoken, the tiredness she hides behind a smile, and the hopes she has quietly set aside. Give her rest in you. Where she feels stretched between work, family and her own needs, steady her heart and remind her that she is not carrying it alone.

Lord, guard her health, her peace and her joy. Make her strong where she feels weak and gentle where she is tempted to be harsh. Let her see herself the way you see her, as deeply loved and fully known. Surround her with friends who encourage her faith and tell her the truth with kindness. Where she is lonely, come close. Where she is afraid, be her shelter.

I also ask you to be at work in me, Lord. Teach me to listen when she speaks, to serve without keeping score, and to honor her as a partner and a gift. Keep our marriage rooted in you so that our love can grow through ordinary days and difficult ones alike. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I lift my wife to you right now. Bless her today, keep her safe, and fill her with your peace. Strengthen her where she is weary and comfort her where she is hurting. Help me love her well and see her as you see her. Thank you that she is precious to you. Amen.

Pray this passage over your wife when worry is pressing on her. Ask God to replace her anxious thoughts with a peace that is steady and guarded in Christ.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many husbands find it helpful to pray for their wives at the start of the day, perhaps while still sitting on the edge of the bed or over a cup of coffee before the house wakes. Keep a small notebook nearby and write down one specific concern she has mentioned, so your prayer stays grounded in her real life rather than in generalities.

You might also pray with your hands occupied, such as while folding laundry, driving to work or washing dishes, since these routines are often where tenderness and attention are most needed. If you are part of a small group, a mentor or a close friend, invite them to pray this prayer for your wife too. Shared prayer can carry a weight that one voice cannot.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless her and keep her. May he make his face shine upon her and be gracious to her. May she know she is loved, cherished and held in the hands of God, today and in all the days ahead.
