BIBLEREADER // STEVEN MITCHELL

If you are looking for short Bible verses for Easter, this list gives you a handful of brief, memorable passages to read on Resurrection morning, during Holy Week, or whenever you want the good news of Christ’s rising in a few words you can carry with you. Each verse is short enough to memorize and rich enough to return to. They share a common thread: the empty tomb is not the end of the story, and the risen Lord is alive and at work.

Verses for the Quiet Morning of Easter

Easter often begins before sunrise, with an empty room and a heart still full of Good Friday. These verses are meant for that early stillness, when you want something simple to hold before the day’s noise begins.

John 20:18

Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had said these things to her.

(WEB)

Mary Magdalene carried the news back to the disciples after she had seen the risen Lord. You can take the same posture by telling one person this morning what Christ has done, even in a single sentence, before you tell anyone about the day’s plans.

Psalm 118:24

This is the day that the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!

(WEB)

This verse invites you to receive the day as a gift rather than a burden. Before you check your phone, say the first line aloud while you are still in bed, and let it set the tone for whatever the morning brings.

Luke 24:6

He isn’t here, but is risen. Remember what he told you when he was still in Galilee…

(WEB)

The angel’s words at the tomb correct a common assumption: we look for the living among the dead. When you notice yourself searching for hope in the wrong places, such as worry or old habits, remind yourself where the living Christ is found.

Psalm 30:5

For his anger is but for a moment. His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning.

(WEB)

Weeping may last through a long night, but joy arrives with the morning. If grief from a loss or a hard season is still with you on Easter, write this verse on a card and keep it where you will see it when the tears come.

Verses for Facing Fear and Doubt

The first disciples did not understand the resurrection right away, and many of us approach Easter with unanswered questions or lingering fear. These short verses speak to those honest moments without rushing past them.

Matthew 28:5

The angel answered the women, “Don’t be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus, who has been crucified.

(WEB)

The angel’s first words to the women were a command not to be afraid. When fear rises in your chest, breathe slowly and repeat this reassurance, letting it interrupt the story your anxiety is telling you.

John 20:29

Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen, and have believed.”

(WEB)

Jesus blesses those who trust without seeing, which speaks directly to anyone who wants more evidence before believing. If your faith feels thin this Easter, bring your questions to God honestly rather than hiding them, and let trust grow at its own pace.

Psalm 56:3

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.

(WEB)

David names fear openly and then places his trust in God in the same breath. Choose one specific worry you are carrying and speak it to God by name, then return to the verse as your answer to it.

1 Corinthians 15:57

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

(WEB)

Paul ties the resurrection to victory over death and sin. When discouragement feels heavier than hope, let this verse remind you that the outcome has already been secured in Christ, even if your circumstances have not caught up yet.

Verses About Life Made New

Easter is a celebration of new life, not only in the future but in the present. These verses describe what the resurrection changes for people who belong to Christ right now.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.

(WEB)

Paul says those in Christ are made new, which means your past does not have the final word. Think of one old pattern you would like to leave behind this year, and ask God to help you begin again in that area.

Colossians 3:1

If then you were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God.

(WEB)

Because Christ is raised, Paul urges believers to seek the things above. Set a simple reminder to pause at midday and ask what your attention is fixed on, then redirect it toward Christ.

Verses for Sharing the Good News

Once the joy of Easter settles in, many people feel a quiet pull to share it. These verses encourage gratitude and gentle witness, whether you speak with words or simply live differently.

Psalm 107:2

Let the redeemed by the LORD say so, whom he has redeemed from the hand of the adversary…

(WEB)

Those whom the Lord has redeemed are invited to say so. Write down one way God has rescued you, and consider sharing it with a friend who might need to hear it.

Psalm 96:2

Sing to the LORD! Bless his name! Proclaim his salvation from day to day!

(WEB)

Sing to the Lord and proclaim his salvation day after day. Pick one person you will greet this Easter with a simple word of hope, letting your words carry something of the resurrection into an ordinary conversation.

1 John 4:19

We love him, because he first loved us.

(WEB)

We love because God first loved us, and that love is the source of everything else we offer others. Before you act on any intention to serve or forgive this week, pause and remember that the motivation begins with his love for you.

Revelation 1:18

And the Living one. I was dead, and behold, I am alive forever and ever. Amen. I have the keys of Death and of Hades.

(WEB)

Christ describes himself as the living one who holds the keys of death and Hades. Let this verse reassure you that the one you follow has authority over every power that threatens you, and carry that confidence into your witness.

How to Use These Verses

Choose two or three verses rather than trying to memorize the whole list at once. Write them on index cards or a note on your phone, and place them where you will see them during your morning routine, at your desk, or on your bathroom mirror. Reading one verse slowly and then sitting with it for a minute will often do more than reading ten quickly.

You might also use these verses as prayer starters. Read the verse aloud, then pause and ask God what it means for the specific person or situation in front of you. Return to the same verse on several days during Easter week, and notice how your understanding deepens with repetition.

A Short Prayer for Easter

Lord Jesus, you rose from the grave and conquered death for me. Thank you that the tomb is empty and that you are alive. Where I feel afraid or unsure this morning, meet me with the same peace you gave your disciples. Help me to trust you even when I cannot see everything clearly. Make these short words of Scripture live in my heart, and let them shape how I speak and act today. May my life show that you are risen indeed. Amen.
