This page gives you a short prayer to pray for a husband, whether he is yours, a son-in-law’s, a friend’s, or a man you know who is carrying more than he says out loud. You can pray it aloud exactly as written, pray it silently in the car or at the kitchen sink, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words. Each part is built for a busy day, with a longer prayer, a shorter one for a passing moment, and Scripture to pray alongside.

Short Prayers for Husbands

Lord, I bring my husband to you this morning. You know the weight he carries at work, the decisions he lies awake over, and the worries he does not always name. Give him steady strength for the hours ahead, and keep his heart soft toward you even when the day is hard. Help him sense that he does not have to earn your love or prove his worth by how well things go.

Father, shape him into a man who leads with patience and tenderness. Where he is tired, give him rest. Where he is short-tempered, give him gentleness. Where he feels he has failed, remind him that your mercy is new each day and that he can come to you honestly. Let his faithfulness to you show up in the small things, the way he speaks, the way he listens, and the way he keeps his promises.

I ask you to protect his body and his mind, and to guard the people he loves from harm. Surround him with friends who will tell him the truth and pray for him without fear. Draw him deeper into your word and into your presence, so that his confidence rests in you and not in his own strength. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my husband is in your hands right now. Steady him where he is anxious, comfort him where he is hurting, and give him wisdom for whatever comes next. Keep him close to you, and let him feel your nearness in this moment. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Pray that the Lord would keep your husband from harm in his going out and coming in, both in the obvious dangers of the road and in the quieter pressures of each day.

Ephesians 5:25

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it…

(WEB)

Ask God to help your husband love with the kind of self-giving care Paul describes, choosing the good of others even when it costs him something.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

When your husband is anxious, bring his worries to God in prayer and thanks, and ask for the peace that guards the heart and mind in Christ Jesus.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Pray that your husband would trust the Lord with all his heart instead of leaning on his own understanding, especially when the path ahead is unclear.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

Ask that whatever your husband is doing at work or at home would be done as unto the Lord, so that his effort carries meaning beyond what anyone sees or praises.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray for their husband first thing in the morning, before the day’s messages and demands take over, or in the evening when the house is quiet. You might pray with your hands busy in a simple task, such as folding laundry, packing his lunch, or making coffee, so that the rhythm of the work becomes a rhythm of prayer. If you are praying with a friend or a small group, invite them to take turns reading one paragraph each.

You can also pray this prayer over your husband while he is with you, placing a hand on his shoulder or holding his hand if he is willing. Some couples keep a short prayer card on the bathroom mirror or the dashboard, so the words are close when a difficult moment arrives. Let the prayer be honest. If something specific is weighing on him, name it to God in your own words after the written prayer ends.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your husband and keep him. May the Lord make his face shine upon him and be gracious to him, and give him peace that steadies him through every season of his life.
