This short prayer is for the relationships between brothers and sisters, whether you are praying for your own siblings, for a sibling who is far away, or for a family that has grown strained. Pray it in the morning before the house wakes up, in the car before a difficult visit, or at night when an old hurt comes back to mind. Read it aloud as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Short Prayers for Siblings

Father, thank You for the brothers and sisters You have given us. Some of them share our memories of the kitchen table and the back seat of the car, and some of them carry memories we would rather forget. Lord, we bring our siblings before You today. Protect them from harm and from the discouragement that comes when life feels heavier than it should. Give them good work, steady health, and friends who will tell them the truth in love.

Where there is distance between us, Lord, help us to close it with patience and humility. Where there is anger or old wounds, soften our hearts and give us the courage to speak first. Teach us to listen more than we argue and to forgive before we are asked. Let our family be a place where grace is practiced, not just talked about. Keep us close when we are apart, and bring us together in the peace only You can give. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I lift up my brother and sister to You now. Keep them safe today, and give them the rest they need. Where we have hurt each other, soften my heart and open my mouth to speak kindly. Help me to forgive as I have been forgiven, and bind us together in love that does not give up. Thank You for the gift of family. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Romans 12:10

In love of the brothers be tenderly affectionate to one another; in honor preferring one another…

(WEB)

Pray this verse by asking God to make your love for your siblings warm and generous, especially in the moments when they are hardest to love. Ask Him to help you put their honor ahead of your own pride.

Proverbs 17:17

A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity.

(WEB)

Pray this for your siblings’ friendship with one another, and for the times they will need someone to stand with them. Ask God to make you that kind of brother or sister, one who shows up in trouble.

Ephesians 4:32

And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

(WEB)

Use this verse when an old grievance is still sitting between you. Ask the Lord to help you be kind and tenderhearted, and to forgive as readily as you hope to be forgiven.

Psalm 133:1

See how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity!

(WEB)

Pray this psalm over your family, asking that your siblings would live together in unity rather than division. Thank God for every moment you have been able to live in peace together.

Colossians 3:13

Bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when you feel that a sibling has wronged you. Ask God to help you bear with them patiently and to forgive them the way Christ has forgiven you.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet time, such as early morning with a cup of coffee or late at night after the day has settled. Sit at a table or in a chair where you can keep your hands still, or hold a photograph of your siblings in your hands while you pray. If you have a family group chat or a shared prayer list, you can write the prayer down and send it to them afterward so they know you have been thinking of them.

You might also pray this prayer with your spouse, a close friend, or a parent who is still part of the family. Ask them to join you in praying for the sibling who is hardest to reach. Keep returning to the prayer as often as you need, and let it shape how you speak to your brothers and sisters in the days ahead.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your brothers and sisters and keep them safe in every season. May His face shine on them and grant them peace, and may the bond between you grow stronger through patience, honesty, and grace. Let them know they are loved, and let that love reach them through you.
