This is a simple prayer to pray before an exam, when your stomach is tight and the first question is only minutes away. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put the worries you are carrying into your own words. Two or three quiet minutes before the test starts is enough.
Simple Prayer Before an Exam
Lord, you already know why my hands feel shaky and why my mind keeps running ahead to questions I have not seen yet. I am afraid of going blank, of reading a question and having nothing come. I am afraid of the grade, of what my parents will say, and of feeling like the years of studying were wasted if this goes badly. Please quiet that fear for these few minutes.
Help me to think clearly. Bring back what I actually learned, not only what I crammed last night. Let me read each question slowly, and let me give my best answer to the ones I know before I worry about the rest. If I get stuck, show me the next small step instead of the whole problem. Keep my hands steady and my breathing even.
Whatever the result, let me remember that my worth does not rise or fall with this paper. I give you the outcome, and I give you the hours I have put in. Thank you that you are with me in this room, not only when things go well. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am nervous and my mind feels crowded. Please calm me and bring back what I have studied. Help me read carefully, think clearly, and answer honestly. Whatever happens with this grade, I trust that you are with me in this room. Thank you for being here. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside
Philippians 4:6-7
6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

Paul names anxiety plainly and then tells us what to do with it: bring the specific request to God with thanks. Before an exam, you can name the exact fear you are carrying, then thank God for the preparation you have already done.
Psalm 46:1
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Isaiah 41:10
Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
(WEB)
This passage asks you to trust God rather than leaning only on your own understanding. Pray it as a reminder that your preparation matters, and that you can hand the results over to God.
How to Pray This Prayer
Try to pray a minute or two before you walk into the room, or in the hallway while the others are settling. Sitting with your feet flat on the floor and your hands resting on the desk helps the body slow down along with the words. If you have a pen or a watch in your hand, you can hold it while you pray and let it be a small reminder to come back to God whenever you feel panic rising.
If a friend, sibling, or parent is nearby, ask them to pray it with you or over you, or to pray for you on their own before your exam. Many people find that hearing someone else say the words lets them finally breathe. You can also pray it again at the end of the exam, when you are walking out and cannot change your answers anymore.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go into the room ahead of you and keep your mind clear and your heart steady. May he bring to mind what you have learned and give you patience with every question. Whatever the result, may you know that you are loved and held, and that the one who made you is with you the whole way through.
