BIBLEREADER // SOPHIE GARDNER

This simple prayer for trusting God is written for the moments when you want to believe God is good and in control but your heart feels unsteady. Pray it when worry keeps you awake, when a decision feels too heavy, or when you simply need to hand something over and mean it. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the spaces it leaves open.

Simple Prayer for Trusting God

Lord, you know what is weighing on me right now. I keep turning the problem over in my mind, rehearsing what could go wrong and trying to picture every outcome before it happens. My chest feels tight and my thoughts race ahead of me. I confess that I want to control things I cannot control, and that trusting you feels harder than it should.

Help me remember who you are. You have never been surprised by anything in my life, and you are not surprised by this either. Remind me that your plans are older and wiser than my fears, and that you see the whole road while I can only see the next step. Quiet the noise in my head so I can hear your steady voice.

So I place this situation in your hands. I give you the outcome I am afraid of, the people involved, and the hours I cannot get back. Teach me to rest in your faithfulness even when I do not understand what you are doing. Give me enough trust for today, and let that be enough. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am anxious right now and I do not have words for everything. You see what I cannot say. I choose to trust you with this moment and the next one after it. Steady my breathing, steady my heart, and help me take the next faithful step without needing to see the end. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Read this slowly and pause on the word “lean.” Pray that you would stop leaning on your own understanding and let God carry the weight of what you cannot solve. Ask him to show you where you have been relying on your own plans.

Psalm 56:3

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.

(WEB)

When fear rises, speak this verse out loud as a declaration. Name the specific fear in your life, then say the words of this psalm over it. Let the act of speaking turn your attention back toward God.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

Use this verse to pray for a settled mind. Ask God to keep your thoughts anchored in him, especially when they drift toward worst-case scenarios. Return to this promise each time your mind starts to wander.

Psalm 37:5

Commit your way to the LORD. Trust also in him, and he will do this…

(WEB)

This verse invites you to commit your way to the Lord, which is an act you can practice daily. Pray it as a handing-over, placing one particular worry at a time into God’s care and trusting him to act in his own timing.

Romans 8:28

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when you cannot yet see how a situation could possibly be good. Ask God to help you hold on to his purpose even while the details remain unclear, and to show you the good he is already working toward.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet moment when you can pray without being interrupted, such as early in the morning before the day begins or in the evening before sleep. If you are anxious, try sitting with your feet flat on the floor and your hands open in your lap. Some people find it helpful to write the prayer on a card and keep it in a pocket or a wallet, so the words are close when fear shows up unexpectedly.

You do not have to pray this alone. Ask a trusted friend, a family member, or a small group to pray it with you or over you. Hearing another person speak these words can be a steadying reminder that you are not carrying this burden by yourself.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who has never failed you be your steady ground today. May his peace guard your heart and quiet your thoughts, and may you feel his nearness in the ordinary moments ahead. You are known, you are held, and you do not have to carry tomorrow on your own.
