This prayer is for anyone stepping away from a career, whether after decades of work or sooner than planned. It can be prayed on the last day at the office, the first morning with nowhere to be, or any time the future feels unfamiliar. Read it aloud as written, or let it be a starting point and put the words into your own language.
Blessings for Retirement
Lord, thank you for the years of work you gave me. Thank you for the skills I built, the people I served beside, and the problems you helped me solve, many of which I could not have solved alone. Today I close one chapter, and I do not want to rush past the gratitude that belongs to it. Let me remember the faithfulness you showed me in every season of my working life.
Now I face mornings with a different shape. Some days I will not know what to do with my hours, and I may feel a loss of purpose or identity that surprises me. Give me wisdom to choose how I spend my time, and keep me from filling every hour out of fear. Help me rest without drifting, and help me serve without rushing. Guard my health, my marriage and friendships, and my finances, so that I can enjoy this season with a settled heart.
Show me the people and places you want me to bless in this new stage. Open doors for generosity, mentoring and quiet acts of care that only someone with time can offer. When I am tempted to measure my worth by productivity, remind me that you love me for who I am. Thank you for going before me into this unknown season. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, thank you for the work you let me do and for the rest you now give me. Guide my days, guard my health, and show me how to bless others in this new season. Help me trust you with what comes next and enjoy what you place in front of me today. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Consider praying this prayer in the early morning, with a cup of coffee and a chair near a window. Let the first hour of a day without a commute become a time of quiet thanks rather than restless scrolling. Keep a notebook beside you so you can write down any people or needs that come to mind as you pray.
You might also pray it with your spouse, a close friend, or a former colleague who is going through the same transition. Reading it together turns a private transition into a shared one. If your hands need something to do, fold laundry, walk slowly around the block, or tend a garden while you speak the words aloud.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who led you through every working day now lead you into every quiet morning. May he give you health for the journey, friends for the road, and joy in each unhurried hour. May you find that the best of your life is still ahead of you in his good hands.
