If you lead or join a prayer group, you may be looking for a daily prayer that everyone can say together, or one you can read aloud as the group gathers. This page offers a prayer written for that purpose, along with a shorter version for busy moments and a few scriptures to pray alongside it. Read it exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the same spirit.

Daily Prayers for Prayer Groups

Lord, thank You for the people gathered here today. Some of us came with a full heart and some came with a tired one, and You know the difference better than we do. We bring to You the names we have written on our list, the friend waiting on test results, the son who has not called home in weeks, the coworker whose marriage is quietly coming apart. Keep each of them in Your care through the hours we cannot see. Help us to speak honestly about what we are carrying, and help us to listen without rushing to fix one another.

Make this group a place where no one has to pretend. Give us patience when prayers run long and humility when they run short. Guard us from gossip disguised as concern, and from the pride that wants to be seen praying well. Let our words be few and true. Teach us to pray for one another the way You pray for us, with steady love and no expectation of thanks. Fill this room with Your nearness, and send us out again ready to love the people we meet. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, we are here, and You are here. Hold the names we carry, the ones spoken and the ones kept quiet. Steady our hearts and loosen our grip on what we cannot control. Make us honest, gentle, and unhurried in our praying together. Let this time turn us back toward You and toward one another. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”

(WEB)

Use this verse to open your group’s time of prayer. Pause after reading it and let the room go quiet before anyone speaks. Ask God to still the noise of the day so that the group can hear what He is saying to each person present.

Matthew 18:20

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the middle of them.”

(WEB)

Pray this when the group feels small or tired. Thank Jesus that gathering in His name is itself a meeting with Him, whatever the number of people in the room. Let that assurance steady anyone who arrived doubting that their prayers mattered.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Read this slowly when the list of requests seems endless. Invite each person to name one worry aloud and hand it to God in prayer. Then ask for the peace the passage promises to guard hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Romans 12:15

Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep.

(WEB)

Let this verse shape how the group responds to one another’s news. When someone shares joy, rejoice with them in prayer. When someone shares grief, sit with them and pray through the tears. Ask God to make your group practice this kind of shared feeling.

James 5:16

Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective.

(WEB)

Pray this when the group is ready to be more open with one another. Ask God for courage to confess what needs confessing and for trust within the room. Ask Him to let the prayer of a righteous person, however ordinary, do real work among you.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many groups find that early morning works well, before the day fills up, with coffee in hand and the names written on a card in the middle of the table. Sit close enough to hold hands or rest a hand on a shoulder, and let the prayer be read by one person while others follow along or listen with eyes closed. If the group meets online, ask each person to have the text open on their own screen and take turns reading a paragraph.

Any member of the group can lead, and it helps to rotate that role so no one feels responsible for every word. Invite a few minutes of silence after the prayer so that people can add their own requests in their hearts. If someone is absent, ask a member to pray this prayer on their behalf that same day, and to share the name of that person with the group the next time you meet.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless each person who prays here today and keep them in the days ahead. May He make His face shine upon this group and give every member grace for the work of loving one another. May the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, settle over each heart as you go back into your homes and workplaces.
