This evening prayer for perseverance is for the end of a day when you are tired of holding on to something hard, whether that is a long illness, a job that is wearing you down, a child who is not yet on the path you hoped for, or a faith that feels thin. Pray it at bedtime, after the dishes are done and the lights are low, and let it carry the day’s weariness into God’s hands. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Evening Prayer for Perseverance
Lord, the day is ending, and I am worn out from carrying what I was given to carry. I have kept going when I wanted to stop, and some of that was faithfulness and some of it was simply stubbornness. Tonight I do not need to pretend I am stronger than I am. I bring you the tiredness in my body, the worry that keeps circling in my mind, and the quiet fear that I will not have enough strength for tomorrow.
Thank you that you saw every hard moment of this day. Thank you for the small mercies I almost missed: the cup of coffee that tasted good, the person who listened, the strength I did not know I had until I used it. Help me remember that perseverance is not something I manufacture alone. It is something you give, one day at a time, and you have given me enough for today. Take the unfinished things from my hands and tell me what can wait until morning.
Guard my sleep tonight. Keep away the thoughts that accuse me of failing, and the replay of conversations I wish I had handled differently. Where I am tempted to quit tomorrow, remind me that I can stop and rest, not run from the thing you have called me to. Give me a steady heart when I wake, and let me come back to the work with hope rather than dread. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am tired, and I am still trying to keep going. Hold me together tonight. Carry what I cannot carry, quiet what keeps me awake, and give me enough for tomorrow, not more than that. Let me rest in you, knowing you are faithful even when I am not sure I can hold on. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

Read this slowly before you close your eyes and ask God to renew the strength you have spent today. Let the image of waiting on the Lord shape your prayer, not as a demand for speed but as a trust that he will restore you in his time.
Psalm 121:3-4
3 He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

Romans 5:3-5
3 Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope: 5 and hope doesn’t disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Paul traces a path from suffering to endurance to hope. Offer your ongoing struggle to God and ask him to work that long patience into something that holds steady in you rather than something that only wears you down.
Hebrews 12:1-2
1 Therefore let us also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Pray this passage as you lay the day down, asking Jesus to be the one you fix your eyes on. Admit the weights you set down tonight and ask him to help you pick up only what he has given you to run with tomorrow.
How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a consistent place and time, such as your bed just before you turn off the lamp, or a chair in the kitchen after the house has gone quiet. If your hands need something to do, hold a cup of tea, a Bible, or a loose fist that you slowly open as you release each worry. If you share a home, you might pray the prayer aloud together, with one person reading the scripture and the other closing in prayer.
If the day has been especially hard, read the prayer through once, then pause after each paragraph and let God respond in silence. You can also ask a friend, a pastor, or a spouse to pray this over you on nights when you cannot find the words, and ask them to remind you of it in the morning.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who has walked with you through this day give you rest that is deeper than sleep. May he steady your heart for what comes next, and may the strength he gives you be enough for the morning. Let his peace keep watch over you tonight, and let his faithfulness meet you again when you wake.
