A prayer for comfort is a way to bring grief, fear, exhaustion or heartache directly to God and ask him to meet you in it. You can pray it in the morning when the day feels heavy, late at night when sleep won’t come, or in the middle of a hard moment when words are hard to find. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own concerns in the same spirit.
Prayer for Comfort
Father, you already know what is weighing on me today. You know the worry I haven’t said out loud, the ache I keep pushing aside so I can get through the next task, and the tiredness that sleep doesn’t seem to fix. I don’t want to carry it alone. Draw close to me the way you draw close to the brokenhearted, and let me feel that I am not forgotten in this.
Be my comfort in the quiet moments, when the house is still and my thoughts get loud. Settle my mind where it is racing, and steady my heart where it is afraid. Remind me of what is true about you when my feelings tell me otherwise: that you are near, that you are patient with my questions, and that you have not run out of kindness. Give me enough strength for this hour, and trust that you will provide what tomorrow requires.
Comfort me in a way that changes me, not only in a way that makes the pain fade for a moment. Help me to receive care from the people you have placed around me, and help me to offer my own care to others who are struggling. Hold what I cannot hold, and carry what I cannot carry. I give you this burden now, trusting that you are good and that you see me. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I need you right now. My heart feels heavy and my strength feels thin. Come close, calm the fear in me, and remind me that you are with me in this exact moment. Hold me steady until I can breathe again, and help me trust that you are still at work even when I cannot see it. Amen.

Isaiah 41:10
Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
(WEB)
God speaks directly to the fearful here, promising his presence and strength. Pray it slowly, letting each promise sink in, and ask him to help you believe that he is holding you even when you feel unsteady.
How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a time when you can be still, such as first thing in the morning with a cup of coffee, or in the car before you walk into a difficult appointment. Keep something in your hands while you pray, like a warm mug, a smooth stone or the edge of a blanket, so your body has something steady to rest on while your mind settles.
You can also pray this prayer over someone else. Read it slowly for a friend, a spouse or a family member who is grieving or anxious, changing the pronouns to “he,” “she” or “they” as you go. Asking God for comfort alongside a loved one often feels less lonely than praying by yourself.
A Blessing to Close
May the God of all comfort be near to you today, steady you where you feel weak, and quiet the fear that keeps you awake. May you feel held by a love that does not run out, and may you rest in the knowledge that you are seen, known and never alone.
