This prayer is for asking God for physical healing, whether you are facing an illness, recovering from surgery, living with chronic pain, or watching someone you love struggle in their body. You can pray it in the morning when the pain feels heavy, at a hospital bedside, or late at night when sleep will not come. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words to what you are carrying.
Prayer for Physical Healing
Lord, you made my body and you know every part of it. You know the ache in my joints, the tiredness that will not lift, the test results I am afraid to open, and the questions I have not been able to say out loud. I bring my body to you today. I ask for healing where there is sickness, for strength where I feel weak, and for relief where pain keeps me awake.
Be near to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who are working with me. Give them wisdom, patience, and skill, and let the treatments I receive do their work in me. Where healing is slow, give me patience. Where I am frightened, give me your peace so that my heart is not ruled by fear while my body recovers. Help me to rest when I need rest and to act when I am able.
Whatever comes, I trust that I am held by you. Restore what is broken and strengthen what is weak, for your glory and for my good. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, you see my body and you know my pain. I ask for your healing today, for strength where I am weak and relief where I hurt. Be near the people caring for me, and give me your peace while I wait. Thank you that I am not alone in this. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside
Psalm 103:2-3
2 Praise the LORD, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits; 3 who forgives all your sins; who heals all your diseases…
(WEB)
David calls his own soul to remember the good things God has done, and healing is named among them. Pray these words slowly, naming one specific illness or symptom each time, and thank God for the ways he has already been faithful to you.
Jeremiah 17:14
Heal me, O the LORD, and I will be healed. Save me, and I will be saved; for you are my praise.
(WEB)
Jeremiah brings his own pain directly to God and asks to be healed and saved. Use this verse as a simple, honest request, and let it give you permission to ask God plainly for what your body needs.
Psalm 147:3
He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.
(WEB)
This verse describes God as one who binds up wounds and tends to the broken. Pray it while picturing the places that hurt, and ask him to do that careful, tender work in you.
James 5:14-15
14 Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, 15 and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
(WEB)
James encourages the sick to call for the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil. Pray this passage for yourself or for someone you love, and consider asking a trusted friend or elder to pray with you.
Isaiah 40:29-31
29 He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. 30 Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; 31 But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.
(WEB)
When your body feels spent, this promise speaks of God giving strength to the weary and renewal to those who wait on him. Pray it on days when you feel you have nothing left, asking him to be your strength when your own runs out.
How to Pray This Prayer
Many people find it helpful to pray this in the early morning, before the day’s demands begin, or in the evening before sleep. Sit or kneel somewhere quiet, and if you are able, place your hand on the part of your body that hurts as you pray. Let the touch remind you that God is caring for that specific place. Keep a small notebook nearby so you can write down the names of doctors, the dates of appointments, and any answers to prayer you notice along the way.
You do not have to pray this alone. Ask a family member, a friend, or someone from your church to pray it with you or over you, and give them permission to pray for your healing as often as you need. If you are praying for someone else who is sick, read the prayer aloud in the first person, speaking their name in place of “me” when that feels right, and let the words become your own intercession for them.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who heals your body also keep your heart steady and your mind at rest. May he give strength to your days, peace to your nights, and wisdom to everyone who cares for you. Whatever the outcome of this season, may you know that you are seen, loved, and held by the one who made you.
