These prayers for husbands are written for wives, girlfriends, mothers, sisters and friends who want to bring a husband before God with specific, honest words. Pray the main prayer below slowly, in the morning, at a red light, or at his bedside while he sleeps. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or treat it as a starting point and put his name and his real struggles into your own sentences.

Prayers for Husbands

Lord, I bring my husband before You today. You know the weight he carries at work, the decisions he makes without anyone seeing, and the places in his heart he has not shown me. Give him rest that is real, not just a break from his phone. Guard his body and his mind, and where he is tired or discouraged, lift the load and remind him whose he is.

Father, shape his character from the inside out. Where he is quick to anger, slow his response. Where he is proud, humble him gently. Where he is afraid of failing, let him know that his worth does not depend on his performance. Give him courage to be honest with You and with me, and help him take his faith seriously in ordinary things like how he speaks to the kids and how he treats strangers.

Lord, protect our marriage and his faithfulness to me and to You. Keep his eyes and his heart clean. Surround him with men who will pray with him and tell him the truth. And give me grace to love him well, to speak kindly, and to trust You with what I cannot change. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, my husband is in my thoughts right now. Give him strength for what is in front of him today, peace in the places he is anxious, and wisdom for the decisions he must make. Keep him close to You, and keep us close to each other. Thank You for him. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Pray this when your husband is carrying worry he has not named. Ask God to replace his anxiety with a peace that stays steady when circumstances shift, and ask him to bring his concerns to the Lord rather than keeping them locked inside.

Ephesians 5:25

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it…

(WEB)

Read this slowly as a prayer for his heart toward you and toward his own calling. Ask God to deepen his love for you in practical, sacrificial ways, and to help him understand what it means to lay down his life for his family.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Use this when he faces a decision with no clear answer. Pray that he would lean on the Lord’s understanding more than his own, and that God would make his path straight in the choices ahead of him.

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Pray this for his coming and going, especially when he travels, drives long hours, or works away from home. Ask the Lord to keep him safe in body and to guard his going out and his coming in.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

Pray this when he feels unseen at work or discouraged by thankless tasks. Ask God to help him labor with integrity and purpose, remembering that his effort matters to the One he ultimately serves.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many wives find it helps to pray for their husbands at a steady time each day, such as after the morning coffee or before you fall asleep. Keep a small notebook or a note on your phone with his current concerns, so your prayers stay specific and you can later thank God for answers. If you have a physical habit, such as holding his wedding ring or laying a hand on a photo of him, let your hands remind you to keep praying.

You can also invite others to pray with you. A close friend, a small group, or a mentor from your church can carry this request alongside you. Ask a trusted man in his life to pray for him too, since a husband often benefits from encouragement from other men who know the pressures he faces.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your husband and keep him. May the Lord make His face shine upon him and be gracious to him. May he know that he is loved by God, held in grace, and never walking alone, and may he rest in that love every day of his life.
