This page offers prayers for my son, written for parents, grandparents, and others who carry a boy or young man on their heart. You can pray it at the start of the day, during a hard stretch of the week, or late at night when you cannot sleep. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Prayers for My Son
Lord, I bring my son to You this morning. You know his name, his heart, and every road he will walk today. I thank You for the gift of him, even on the days when parenting feels heavier than I can carry. Give him a clear sense of who he is in You, so he does not have to find his worth in the approval of friends, teachers, or screens.
Protect him where I cannot be. Guard his body on the road, in the gym, and at the places where he is tempted to take unnecessary risks. Guard his mind from fear, comparison, and discouragement. When he is tempted to lie, cheat, or hide, give him the courage to tell the truth and the humility to ask for help. Bring wise people into his life, mentors who will speak honestly and care for him without manipulating him.
Father, I also ask You to be near to him in the quiet places, the ones only You can see. Speak to him when he is lonely, uncertain about his future, or wrestling with questions he does not know how to ask. Keep his heart soft toward You and give him a hunger for Your word. Hold him, lead him, and make him brave enough to follow You all his days. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, my son is on my mind right now. Please go with him wherever he is and keep him safe in body and spirit. Quiet his fears, open his eyes to Your goodness, and remind him that he belongs to You. Help him choose what is good, and let me trust You with the parts of his life I cannot control. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Many parents find it helpful to pray for their son at a set time, such as while they make coffee, drive to work, or sit in the car before going inside. Keep a note on your phone with his name and the concerns you want to remember. Some people hold a pen or a small cross while they pray, which gives the hands something to do and helps the mind stay focused.
Consider asking a spouse, a close friend, or a pastor to pray with you for your son. Let them know specific needs so they can pray with you and check in on how he is doing. Tell your son, too, that you are praying for him, if that feels right for your relationship. Many young men are surprised and encouraged to learn that someone has been lifting them up all along.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord bless your son and keep him safe in every place he goes. May the Lord’s face shine on him with grace, and may He give him peace that holds steady through every season. May your son grow strong in faith, kind in heart, and sure of the love that holds him. May the Lord go before him, walk beside him, and guide him all the days of his life.
