This list gives you Bible verses for a fresh start, whether you are beginning a new season, recovering from a setback, or simply wanting to start the day with God’s promises rather than your failures. Each group below addresses a different kind of beginning, and each entry includes a short reflection and one practical way to carry the verse through your day. The common thread is that God is the one who makes things new, and the verses point you back to his faithfulness rather than your own effort.

Verses for Beginning Again After a Failure

Failure can make a new start feel impossible, as if the past has the final word. These verses speak to the moment when you have fallen short and need to know that God does not write you off.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

The writer of Lamentations sits among the ruins of Jerusalem and still finds reason for hope. When you have messed up, remember that his mercies are renewed each morning. Try reading this aloud before you check your phone, so the first thing you hear is God’s faithfulness rather than your regret.

Psalm 103:12

As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

(WEB)

The psalmist uses the image of east and west, which never meet, to describe how far God puts our sins from us. If you keep replaying an old mistake, pause and picture that distance. Then choose not to walk back toward something God has already set aside.

Isaiah 43:18-19

18 “Don’t remember the former things, and don’t consider the things of old. 19 Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now. Don’t you know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

(WEB)

God tells the exiles not to dwell on the former things, because he is doing something new. This does not mean forgetting lessons, but it does mean not letting the past dictate the future. Write down one new thing you can attempt this week and let it be a small sign of God’s work.

Verses for the Morning of a New Day

Every morning is a small fresh start. These verses are suited to waking up tired, anxious, or unsure of how the day will go, and they invite you to begin with God rather than with the to-do list.

Lamentations 3:23

They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

This verse is short enough to remember while you brush your teeth or make coffee. Repeat it as you start the day, noticing that God’s compassion is not a one-time gift but something that arrives fresh with every sunrise. Let it set the tone before the emails start.

Psalm 118:24

This is the day that the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!

(WEB)

The psalmist calls this day the one the Lord has made, which reframes even an ordinary Tuesday as a gift. When you feel dread about what lies ahead, try naming one thing about the day you can receive with gratitude. This small shift can change how you approach everything else.

Psalm 143:8

Cause me to hear your loving kindness in the morning, for I trust in you. Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to you.

(WEB)

Here the psalmist asks God to let him hear of his unfailing love in the morning, because he trusts him. If mornings are hard for you, make this a simple prayer as you get out of bed. Ask God to show you the way for the hours ahead, one step at a time.

Verses for Starting Over in Your Relationships

Some fresh starts involve people, whether repairing a strained friendship, forgiving someone who hurt you, or stepping back into a family relationship. These verses address the hope and courage that reconciliation requires.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.

(WEB)

Paul writes that anyone in Christ is a new creation, and the old has gone. Think about the relationship where you most need a restart and consider how this truth changes the way you approach that person. Let it remind you that you are not bound to repeat the patterns of the past.

Romans 12:18

If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

(WEB)

Paul acknowledges that peace is not always possible, but he asks believers to do what lies within their power. A fresh start with someone may begin with one honest message or one act of kindness. Choose one small step toward peace today and leave the outcome with God.

Ephesians 4:32

And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

(WEB)

Paul ties kindness and forgiveness to the way God has forgiven us in Christ. Forgiveness is often the hardest part of starting over, so consider what it would look like to release a specific debt to someone. You may need to pray this prayer repeatedly before your heart catches up.

Verses for Trusting God With the Next Chapter

A fresh start can be exciting and frightening at the same time, especially when the future is uncertain. These verses encourage you to rest in God’s guidance rather than your own ability to predict what comes next.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Proverbs urges trust in the Lord rather than in your own understanding, with the promise that he will make your paths straight. When you are making a major decision, write these verses on a card and keep it where you will see it. Pause each time you feel the pull to rely only on your own reasoning.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says the LORD, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.

(WEB)

God speaks these words to exiles in Babylon, people who had every reason to feel forgotten. Read the verse in its wider context of Jeremiah 29 to see how God’s plans were tied to a long, patient process. Take comfort that his purposes stretch beyond the immediate disappointment.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Isaiah describes those who wait on the Lord renewing their strength, rising up as eagles. A new season often drains energy, so ask God to renew what you need for the next step. Consider one rest practice this week, such as a quiet walk, that makes space to wait.

How to Use These Verses

Choose two or three verses that speak most directly to your situation rather than trying to memorize all fifteen at once. Write them on index cards, in the notes app on your phone, or on the mirror with a dry-erase marker. Place them where your eyes naturally land during the moments you most need them, such as the kitchen counter during breakfast or the dashboard of your car.

Read the verses slowly and out loud, then sit quietly for a minute before moving on. Ask God what one word or phrase stands out to you, and let that become your prayer for the day. Returning to the same verse for a week often reveals more than reading ten new ones once.

A Short Prayer for a Fresh Start

Lord, I come to you today knowing that you are the one who makes all things new. I bring you the failures I cannot undo and the uncertainty of what lies ahead. Thank you that your mercies are new every morning, and that you do not hold my past against me when I turn back to you. Help me to receive your forgiveness, to extend grace to those who have hurt me, and to trust you with the steps I cannot yet see. Give me courage for this new beginning and the patience to walk it one day at a time. Amen.
