This page gives you Scripture for confirmations, the verses many families and churches choose for a young person or adult who is publicly affirming their faith. The verses below are grouped by the moments that surround the day: the anticipation before it, the commitment itself, and the life that follows. Each one points to the same things: God’s faithfulness, the grace that begins the walk, and the steady presence that carries it on.

Verses for the Days Leading Up to Confirmation

The weeks before a confirmation often bring nerves, questions and a fair amount of second-guessing. These passages speak to the uncertainty and remind the one being confirmed that God’s purposes do not depend on how confident they feel.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

When you are unsure what the day will mean for you, these verses ask you to lean on God rather than on your own understanding. Try writing them on an index card and reading them once each morning during the final week.

Psalm 27:1

The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?

(WEB)

Fear can crowd out the joy a confirmation is meant to bring. This verse names the Lord as the one who provides light and safety, so you can bring your worries to him before you walk into the sanctuary.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

God speaks directly here, saying he is with the one who is afraid and will strengthen them. Repeat the words quietly as you wait your turn to kneel or step forward, letting them steady your breathing.

Joshua 1:9

Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

(WEB)

Joshua was commissioned to lead a people into unfamiliar ground, and the command to be strong and courageous applies to any new step of faith. Consider which part of your own commitment feels most like unfamiliar ground, and pray that specific part by name.

Verses for the Moment of Public Commitment

When the confirmation itself arrives, the words spoken and the vows made carry real weight. These passages focus on what it means to belong to God and to answer his call with a whole heart.

Deuteronomy 6:5

You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might.

(WEB)

This is the great command to love God with all of your heart, soul and strength, and it is the heart of what a confirmation affirms. Think of one everyday habit, such as your schedule or your spending, that you can offer to God as an expression of that love.

Romans 10:9

That if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

(WEB)

Paul ties confession with the mouth to belief in the heart, which fits closely with the public words of a confirmation. If the words feel heavy, remember that the verse centers on trust in what God has done, not on perfect speech.

Joshua 24:15

If it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose today whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

(WEB)

Joshua calls the people to choose whom they will serve and then declares his own household’s choice. A confirmation is a similar declaration, so let this verse become a sentence you can say out loud when you make your own choice clear.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from God’s love, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(WEB)

Paul lists the things that cannot separate believers from God’s love, from death to powers to the future itself. Read this slowly on the day of your confirmation to remind yourself that the commitment you make rests on a love that does not waver.

Verses for the Life That Follows

A confirmation marks a beginning rather than a finish. These passages look ahead to the ordinary weeks and years, when faith is lived in school, at work and at home.

Philippians 1:6

Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

(WEB)

Paul expresses confidence that the God who begins a good work will complete it. When you feel like you are falling behind in prayer or Bible reading, this promise reminds you that the work is his as much as yours.

Galatians 5:22-23

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, 23 gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

(WEB)

These verses describe the fruit the Spirit produces in a believer’s character. Choose one quality, such as patience or kindness, and watch for chances to practice it with a classmate, sibling or coworker this week.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

Whatever you do, you are invited to work as though serving the Lord. Apply this to a task you would normally rush through, like homework or chores, and do it with that different purpose in mind.

Psalm 119:105

Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path.

(WEB)

The psalmist describes God’s word as a lamp for the feet and a light for the path. Keep a Bible somewhere you will see it each morning, so the lamp is always within reach when the road gets dark.

Hebrews 10:23

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering; for he who promised is faithful.

(WEB)

The writer urges believers to hold firmly to the hope they profess, because the one who promised is faithful. Let this verse encourage you when the first excitement fades and the daily discipline of faith feels routine.

How to Use These Verses

Many people write their chosen verses on a card, place it in a Bible, or keep them on a phone’s lock screen. Reading one verse each day for the month after your confirmation builds a habit that outlasts the celebration. You might also copy a verse onto the inside cover of your Bible so you can find it quickly.

Praying the verses works well alongside reading them. Take one passage and turn each phrase into a request or a thanks, speaking to God as you would a close friend. Doing this with family members or a small group can also deepen the shared faith your confirmation celebrates.

A Short Prayer for Confirmation

Lord, you have called me by name and invited me into your family. Today I answer that call with an open heart, not because I have everything figured out but because you have shown me your faithfulness again and again. Give me the courage to speak what I believe and the humility to keep learning. When I feel unsure, remind me of the verses I have carried into this day. Keep me close to you in the weeks and years ahead, and let my life point others toward your love. Amen.
